Riding on elephants in India in the early 20th century. Watercolour of Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) ridden by the British artist Olivia Fanny Tonge (1858-1949). This artwork is from a collection of watercolours drawn by Tonge in the period 1908 to 1913, during two visits to India. At the time, India was under British rule (the British Raj). The collection was presented to the Natural History Museum, London, UK, in 1952.
