Icebreaker engine room. Engine and control room of the Scandinavian-built icebreaker Akademik Sergey Vavilov. This ship was originally built for Russian science research. It is now mostly used for tourism in the Arctic and the Antarctic. Icebreakers are equipped with powerful engines and reinforced hulls to enable travel in polar waters. Photographed in 2011 on an Antarctic cruise.
