La noua scientia de Niccolo Tartaglia. Century woodcut illustration of various figures, symbolising various disciplines (e.g. arithmetics, geometry) from 'La noua scientia' by the Italian mathematician Niccolo Tartaglia (1550). This publication, regarded as Tartaglia's greatest work, showed how the path of a projectile is curved and that a projectile travels the furthest distance when fired at an angle of 45 degrees to the ground.
