Cro-Magnon human (Homo sapiens). Cro-Magnon man is one of the best-known examples from Western Europe of anatomically modern humans. The remains dates from around 30,000 years ago in the Dordogne region of France. Cro-Magnon fossils were first discovered in 1868. Artwork by the British illustrator John Sibbick.
