Knuckle joint replacement surgery. Orthopaedic surgeons carrying out a procedure to replace a patient's arthritic knuckle joint with a prosthetic implant. The head of the metacarpal (hand bone) and phalanx (finger bone) will be replaced with a pyrocarbon implant. Here, they are flushing out the area with saline (salt water) to clean out any residual loose material and clean the wound surface.
