Landscape of the Triassic. Vivid colour lithograph for "Dr. Schubert's Naturgeschichte - Geologie, Mineralreich, Palaontologie". Published in Stuttgart 1888 by J.F. Shreiber. The palaeontology section by Dr. Friedrich Rolle. Foreground left is Belodon (a crocodile-like phytosaur), foreground right Mastodonsaurus (a temnospondyl amphibian). At the time this was engraved Mastodonsaurus was held responsible for the footprints found in Triassic sandstones and described as Chirotherium, but recent research indicates the trace fossil track belong to reptiles of the Pseudosuchia. German lithographers dominated colour lithography with their high volume productions such as this book for Children.
