Robert Waring Darwin (30th May 1766 - 13th November 1848) silhouette made some time around 1826. Robert was the father of Charles Darwin. Robert wanted Charles to be a medical doctor, as he was, (and his own father, Erasmus, before him). Being over 6 feet tall and some 24 stone, Charles described his father in his autobiography as "the largest man I ever saw". He also described him as "the kindest man I ever knew". Darwin once recalls being admonished by his father saying, "you will be a disgrace to yourself and your family". He clearly was not that.
