Sabre-toothed cat's fossil skull. This specimen is from the genus Dinofelis. These sabre-toothed cats were found in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America, from around 5 million to 1.2 million years ago during the Pliocene and Pleistocene epochs. Dinofelis was about the size of a jaguar, with upper canines that were larger than its lower ones.
