Thorny broom (Calicotome spinosa sp.). This species has a symbiotic relationship with certain soil bacteria, which form nodules on the roots and fix atmospheric nitrogen. Some of this nitrogen is utilised by the plant while it is developing and some can also be used by other plants growing nearby.
