Bone softening. This is the August 1752 appearance of 35-year-old Anne Elizabeth Queriot, of Paris, France. The first sign of illness was in 1747. By 1751, a chalky sediment was appearing in her urine and her bones and limbs began to soften and deform. She died in November 1752. The observing physician, Ambrose Hosty, carried out a post-mortem and published this illustration and an accompanying account in volume 48 (1753-4) of the journal 'Philosophical Transactions', published by the Royal Society of London.
