Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) pupae. The pupa is the stage of a mosquito's life cycle between the larva and the adult winged form. Within the pupal case, the metamorphosis from larva to adult is taking place. This mosquito, native to South-East Asia and the Indian Ocean, is a vector for pathogens such as West Nile virus, yellow fever virus, dengue virus and zika virus.
