Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) female feeding on human skin. The female uses her proboscis to pierce the skin and obtain blood to nourish her eggs. This is the point at which pathogens are transmitted. This mosquito, native to South-East Asia and the Indian Ocean, is a vector for pathogens such as West Nile virus, yellow fever virus, dengue virus and zika virus.
