Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) female, bloated with human blood to nourish her eggs, obtained by using her proboscis to pierce the skin. This is the point at which pathogens are transmitted. This mosquito, native to South-East Asia and the Indian Ocean, is a vector for pathogens such as West Nile virus, yellow fever virus, dengue virus and zika virus.
