Moon's surface. The lunar hemisphere that faces Earth has bright highlands and dark seas, or maria, which are lowland plains full of dark solidified lava. Also present are impact craters. At lower centre is the bright Copernicus crater, with the fainter Kepler crater to its left. Above Copernicus is the Mare Imbrium.
