Volcanic lava sample. This rock is from a lava flow that formed from a volcano in Edinburgh, Scotland. This ancient lava flow erupted from a vent down the flanks of the volcano and came to rest on what is now Whinny Hill. The sample contains cavities where the volcanic gases have bubbled out of the molten rock.
