Naval telephone. Officer on the deck of a boat using a Collins naval telephone system to communicate between two Japanese ships. Early inventors of wireless telephony (radio) systems included the US inventor Archie Frederick Collins (1869-1952), whose system was developed between 1899 and 1910. This photograph is from the Bain News Service, one of the USA's earliest news picture libraries. Its photographs date from the 1890s to the 1930s.
