Food product advert. Lorings Fat-ten-u and Corpula foods'. Before the 20th century, being plump was often seen as a sign of good health and being thin was seen as unhealthy. This advert dates from around 1895 and shows the packaging and instructions for use. The Loring company had stores in Boston, New York and Chicago. In the 19th century, there were very few laws regulating the contents and advertisement of food products. This changed in the USA with the introduction of the Food and Drug Act in 1906.
