Caption

Sodium-ethanol reaction. Sodium (symbol Na) is a reactive metal from group one of the periodic table. Ethanol (alcohol, C2H5OH) reacts with sodium to form sodium ethoxide (C2H5ONa), and the reaction liberates hydrogen gas (H2), which is seen forming bubbles around the sodium.
