Met Office radar. Met Office employee using the display screen for a radar scanner used to detect cloud and rain formations. This Decca Type 41 scanner is located on the roof of what later became the London Weather Centre, Princes House, Kingsway, London. It could detect heavy rain or storms within a radius of around 240 kilometres. The total installation cost at the time was 5000 GBP. The Met Office is the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service. Its London Weather Centre was founded and located here from 1959 to 1965. Photographed in September 1955.
