This was an advanced computer for the time, capable of 50,000 calculations a second. The Met Office, the UK's national weather monitoring and forecasting service, began to use computers in the late 1950s and early 1960s. This KDF9 ('Comet') was installed in 1965 at its headquarters in Bracknell. Photographed in October 1966.
