Construction of Tower Bridge, 19th-century artwork. This bridge across the River Thames in London, UK, was constructed from 1886 to 1894. It is located near the site of the Tower of London and is a combination of a bascule (drawbridge) and suspension bridge. The two towers are 65 metres tall and 61 metres apart. Thousands of tons of steel were used in the bridge's construction. Artwork from the 13th volume (first period of 1894) of the French popular science weekly 'La Science Illustree'.
