MFC is a material composed of nanosized cellulose fibrils with a high aspect ratio (length to width ratio). Diatomaceous earth, or diatomite, is a naturally occurring soft siliceous sedimentary rock that contains a high number of fossilised diatoms (single-celled planktonic algae, spirals).
