Charophyte oospores. Oospores from Lychnothamnus barbatus algae. Charophytes are freshwater green algae also known as stoneworts or brittleworts. An oospore is a thick-walled sexual spore that develops from a fertilised oosphere in some algae and fungi. Magnification: x67 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
