Bean pod. Light micrograph of a section through the seed pod of a bean (Phaseolus sp.) plant. The pericarp (outer covering) is made of two layers with the cells of the outer layer (chlorenchyma tissue) containing chloroplasts. The central seed (light, centre) contains a large amount of starch within the outer layer (testa), and a central embryo. Magnification: x5 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
