Clubmoss stem. Light micrograph of a section through the stem of a Lycopodium sp. clubmoss plant, showing the inner cortex of sclerenchyma cells. The central stele (dark, circular) has an outer ring (endodermis, dark blue) and an inner pericycle (dark blue). The xylem consists of thick-walled tracheids, with outer protoxylem (red) and inner metaxylem (yellow). In-between the xylem is the phloem (dark blue). Magnification: x37 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
