Nummulites foraminiferan fossil. Fossilised specimen of the giant foraminiferan Nummulites gizehensis. Foraminifera are amoeba-like, single-celled organisms, still found in abundance today. This specimen, found in Egypt, dates from the Eocene (56 to 34 million years ago).
