Caption

Animated model of the structure of Mercury. Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun, and is the smallest of the rocky terrestrial planets. Its surface is covered in impact craters. The surface crust extends down to a narrow silicate-rich mantle, which overlies a relatively very large iron-rich core.
