Yacare caiman basking in the sun. The Yacare caiman (Caiman yacare) is a small crocodilian found in central South America. Reptiles are cold-blooded and use the warmth from the sun and their surroundings to regulate their body temperatures. Whilst basking they often open their mouths to help with heat exchange. Photographed in the Pantanal, Brazil.
