The absorption lines indicate the presence of certain elements in the atmosphere. From the following stars (and spectral types), top to bottom: Lambda Cephei (O6), P Cygni (B2e), Beta Orionis (B8), Alpha Canis Majoris (A1), Alpha Canis Minoris (F5), Alpha Aurigae (G8), Alpha Hydrae (K3), Alpha Orionis (M2), Omicron Ceti (M7), and Y Canum Venaticorum (Carbon star).
