Little owl (Athene noctua) in a tree. This owl is native to warmer parts of Europe, Asia and North Africa. It was introduced to the UK in the 19th century and is now naturalised there. It is a small owl, only around 25 centimetres in height, feeding on insects, earthworms and amphibians. Photographed in Gloucestershire, UK, in April.
