Child in a megnetoencephalographic scanner. This detects the magnetic fields generated by neural activity in different parts of the brain when stimulated by auditory signals received through the tubes to the ears and by visual information shown on a screen. The data is used with other neuro-imaging techniques to investigate psychiatric and neurological disorders such as ADHD, epilepsy, autism and also age-related memory and cognitive syndromes such as Alzheimer's and dementia.The MEG uses SQUIDs (Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices) which detect very weak magnetic fields. The eye-tracking device in front of the subject gives data on the gaze related to the brain activity and also on blinking or head movements which affect the accuracy of any readings.
