Malignant carcinoid is a yellow colored tumour that arises from enterochromaffin (silver staining) cells located below the surface of the gastro-intestinal tract, and also in the ovaries and lungs. This tumour may be associated with the carcinoid syndrome (flushing, asthma, diarrhoea and heart disease) due to the release of various humoral factors. Tumours may be removed endoscopically or by surgical excision. This tumour is being removed with a snare wire utilizing electrocautery as seen in the sequence of slides.
