Rabbit embryo. Light micrograph of a sagittal section through a rabbit embryo. In the head (top) is the brain, with its cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem. The spinal cord is at right and across bottom. To its left is the vertebral column with its vertebrae. Also seen in the head is the buccal cavity of the mouth, leading to the pharynx (throat) and oesophagus (gullet). Directly below the lower jaw are six ribs (round), and below those the lungs (white) and heart. To their left is the diaphragm and the liver (large red-purple mass) and parts of the digestive system. Magnification: x4 when printed at 10 centimetres tall.
