Dawn spacecraft preparations. Astrotech technicians examining the lower canister placed around the bottom of the Dawn spacecraft. When enclosed in the canister, Dawn will be transported to Launch Pad 17-B and lifted into the mobile service tower for mating with the Delta II launch vehicle for its 4-year flight to the asteroid belt. Dawn's goal is to characterize the conditions and processes of the solar system's earliest epoch by studying asteroids. Dawn was launched on 27 September 2007. It arrived at Vesta in October 2011, and is scheduled to arrive at Ceres in March 2015. Photographed at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA.
