Cerebellum. Light micrograph of a section through part of the cerebellum of the brain. It consists of inner white matter (dark pink) and outer grey matter (purple and light pink areas). The white matter mainly contains axons, which pass nerve impulses to the brain's outer cortex. The grey matter is made up of two layers of neurons (nerve cells), the molecular layer (light pink) and the granular layer (purple). The cerebellum controls sensory perception, motor control and coordination. Magnification: x37 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
