Streptococcus thermophilus bacteria, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). These lactic acid bacteria are found in fermented milk products, and are generally used in yoghurt production. They produce lactic acid, which coagulates milk, forming the yoghurt. Magnification: x3300 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
