Woodworm. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the larva of a common furniture beetle (Anobium punctatum) emerging from a hole (species unknown). Many beetle species feed on wood and are commonly referred to as 'woodworms'. The larvae of some species, such as this one, can cause large scale structural damage to timber in buildings. Magnification x35 when printed 10cm wide.
