Carnotite (bright yellow) in a host rock. This radioactive mineral is an important ore of uranium and vanadium. It is most often found in sandstone deposits and is a secondary mineral, formed by the alteration of primary uranium-vanadium minerals. This sample, from Colorado, USA, measures 65 millimetres across.
