Differential interference contrast micrograph of a close-up of a Stentor amethystinus ciliate protozoan, showing the symbiotic green algae (Zoochlorellae, yellow) contained in vacuoles (circles) within. These protozoa use the algae to produce food for them through photosynthesis In return the algae gain protection from their host. Magnification: x230 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
