Desmid (Micrasterias rotata), attractive unicellular freshwater Green Algae with a distinct basic symmetry consisting of two semi-cells with the nucleus situated in the narrow center. The green chloroplast enables photosynthesis. Most Desmids require special water conditions, often nutrient poor unpolluted water, especially acidic bogs and marshes. DIC, LM X250.
