Pinnularia is a pennate freshwater Diatom. These algae have yellow-brown plastids for photosynthesis and a beautiful siliceous shell or test that consists of two valves, one being slightly larger than the other so that they fit together like a little pill box. The central groove or raphe plays a role in locomotion. DIC, LM X25.
