Aneurysm in the brain. Angiography (blood vessel X-ray) footage that shows an aneurysm (round, lower centre) of the blood vessels (white) in the brain of a young patient. This aneurysm (an abnormal swelling of the blood vessel) is near the termination of the right internal carotid artery, a major artery of the head and neck that supplies blood to the brain. This artery is being scanned to locate the cause of a subarachnoid haemorrhage, internal bleeding around the brain that can be caused by injuries or ruptures of aneurysms in this and related arteries. The blood vessels are visible on this X-ray footage because they have been injected with a radio-opaque contrast medium.
