Caption

Tin crystal. This is a body-centred tetragonal structure. The animation starts with the unit cell, the smallest repeat unit, before showing the wider crystal structure. Tin is a malleable, somewhat ductile, metal element. The addition of around 12% tin to copper produces the alloy bronze.
