Animated model of a human brain, starting with a side view of the sectioned left hemisphere, showing the internal structures. The front of the brain is at right. At the back of the base of the brain is the cerebellum (pink), which controls motor control and the learning of movements, amongst other things. The right half joins the left, completing its anatomy. Next to join the model is the right half of the limbic system (grey). This is a set of structures at the centre of the brain, which are involved in generating emotions such as pleasure and fear, spatial awareness and the formation of memories. Below the limbic system is the brainstem, which connects the brain to the spinal cord and the rest of the body. The last part to join the model is the right cerebral hemisphere. The cerebral hemispheres cover the top part of the brain, and its folded lobes are responsible for conscious thought, speech and other higher functions.
