Physicist Landau's 60th birthday party. Soviet physicist Lev Davidovich Landau (1908-1968, centre) received the 1962 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on superfluidity and the properties of liquid helium. He was severely injured in a car crash in 1962, and never fully recovered, dying six years later. At right is his wife Kora Drobantseva, who he married in 1937. At left is Lithuanian-Soviet physicist Isaac Konstantinovich Kikoin (1908-1984), who turned 60 a few months later. Photographed on 22 January 1968, in Moscow, Russia.
