Canyon Diablo meteorite. Section through the meteorite showing a Widmanstatten pattern. This distinctive criss-cross pattern is found in iron meteorites that have been cut and etched with acid. The Canyon Diablo meteorite impacted at Barringer Crater (Meteor Crater), Arizona, USA, around 50,000 years ago. Specimen measures 15 centimetres across.
