Fossilised lepidodendron bark. Close-up of the fossilised bark of Lepidodendron sp. plant. Lepidodendron were giant clubmosses common during the Carboniferous Period. They grew to be 100 feet tall, and had a thick stem covered in non-woody outer tissue.
