Caption

Blowhole at the coast, erupting a large plume of water. Blowholes form when coastal caves are eroded inland by wave action, and then become exposed to the surface when they reach a natural shaft or part of the roof collapses. This leaves a narrow shaft connected to the sea by the cave. When weather and sea conditions are right, inflowing water can be ejected through the shaft with considerable speed. Filmed on Kauai, Hawaii, USA.
