Nuclear explosion seismogram. Seismogram showing the effect of a nuclear explosion conducted in the USA on 22nd March 1986. A seismograph records the intensity of ground movements caused by seismic activity. Here the effect of the explosion can be seen as two peaks (centre) amongst much lower level activity. Obtained by the Central Seismic Observatory at the Schmidt Institute of the Physics of the Earth, USSR Academy of Sciences, Russia.
