Aleksander Bogdanov (1873-1928). Portrait of the Belarusian-Soviet doctor and revolutionary Aleksander Aleksandrovich Bogdanov. Bogdanov graduated as a doctor in Moscow in 1899 but soon after became heavily involved with politics. He was second only to Lenin in the Bolshevik movement until he was expelled in 1909 for being a philosophical idealist. Two years later he abandoned politics and returned to medicine. In 1924 he made several experiments on blood transfusion with the aim of rejuvenation. He died when injected with blood infected with tuberculosis and malaria.
